About

Igor Daemen is a fun loving designer. At first sight his sober minded humor might fool you, but in his designs well-thought ideas to every day problems are aesthetically applied and displayed. Because of his interest in gadgets and technology he is able to see new opportunities.

ReCast

ReCast is a project about putting new life in to retired or abandoned furniture. When furniture is discarded we don’t like the looks of it anymore, it’s scratched, dented, or broken. But often those furniture pieces are made out of decent materials witch are perfectly re-usable.

With this project I reclaimed those tables. I used scrap aluminium parts, that I melted and casted to make new connections between tabletop and leg. Because of the combination of those two materials the tables get a completely new look in which both materials play an important role.

E.on Toys to Teach

Together with two classmates I designed 'Toys to Teach' for E.on Rafiki power. During this project I visited Komolo, a small village in Tanzania and used my experiences of this trip during the design process.

Toys to Teach is a series of educational toys that provide an introduction to solar energy. Each toy is packed in a box with all the necessary parts. The box also contains an example of a problem that can be solved by using solar energy as well as an explanation on how to build the toy.
